The goals of the South Centers Forestry Program are:

  • To engage private woodland owners in the sustainable management of Ohio's precious forest resources.
  • To provide innovative educational opportunities for private woodland owners who control over six million acres (75 percent) of Ohio's forests. Currently, most of these 400,000 individuals are poorly equipped to make informed decisions about the management of the resource.
  • To focus research on elucidating impediments to forest regeneration, and on developing and evaluating innovative outreach efforts which increase woodland owner participation in educational programs designed to encourage proactive forest management.
